See how patients responded to a Synvisc-One injection.

Synvisc-One® (hylan G-F 20) can provide up to six months of osteoarthritis knee pain relief with a single injection. In order to determine how well Synvisc-One reduced osteoarthritis knee pain during five common activities (walking on a flat surface, going up stairs, resting during the night, sitting or lying down, and standing upright), a medical study* was conducted and the side effects were tracked.

71% of patients reported pain relief with Synvisc-One

*Study population consisted of 253 patients

Pain relief results with Synvisc-One

The study showed that patients who received Synvisc-One had significantly less osteoarthritis knee pain over six months and felt significantly better than the saline control group. Most patients reported pain relief starting at week four.

Side effects with Synvisc-One

Since Synvisc-One is injected directly into the knee, it doesn’t have the serious side effects found with many pain pills.

The side effects most commonly seen in the medical study were knee pain, stiffness and swelling or fluid buildup in or around the knee. Side effects were generally mild to moderate and did not last long.

The types and frequencies of side effects were similar between the Synvisc-One and the saline control groups. No serious side effects were seen in the injected knee during the study that were related to the use of Synvisc-One.

Indication

Synvisc-One® (hylan G-F 20) and SYNVISC® (hylan G-F 20) are indicated for the treatment of pain in osteoarthritis (OA) of the knee in patients who have failed to respond adequately to conservative non-pharmacologic therapy and simple analgesics, e.g., acetaminophen.

Important Safety Information

Before trying Synvisc-One or SYNVISC, tell your doctor if you are allergic to products from birds — such as feathers, eggs or poultry — or if your leg is swollen or infected. Synvisc-One and SYNVISC are only for injection into the knee, performed by a doctor or other qualified health care professional. Synvisc-One and SYNVISC have not been tested to show pain relief in joints other than the knee. Talk to your doctor before resuming strenuous weight-bearing activities after treatment. Synvisc-One and SYNVISC have not been tested in children, pregnant women or women who are nursing. You should tell your doctor if you think you are pregnant or if you are nursing a child. The side effects most commonly seen when Synvisc-One or SYNVISC is injected into the knee were pain, swelling and/or fluid buildup in or around the knee. Cases where the swelling is extensive or painful should be discussed with your doctor. Allergic reactions such as rash and hives have been reported rarely.
