Fighting the cycle

Trudy is all too familiar with the vicious cycle of osteoarthritis knee pain: pain can lead to inactivity, which can lead to weight gain, adding more knee strain and, eventually, more pain.

“I definitely saw a cycle. It was really hard to keep moving because I was in pain. It was even painful to stand in the kitchen and cook dinner.” That meant a lot of take-out food for her, which led to weight gain and more knee pain.

Loads of effort

When Trudy was diagnosed with mild knee osteoarthritis, finding knee pain relief became an uphill climb. “People don’t realize how painful it can be. Even my doctor said ‘It’s not really that bad.’ I’m not a complainer, but for me it was very painful. My knee osteoarthritis might look mild on the X-rays, but the pain wasn’t mild at all!”

She tried pills and steroid injections, but they didn’t work for her. She eventually found a brochure about Synvisc-One® (hylan G-F 20). So Trudy asked her doctor about it.

A simple solution

Trudy was pleasantly surprised at how easy the Synvisc-One injections were. “They gave me a shot in one knee, went around the table, gave me a shot in the other knee. I was out of there in ten minutes.”

Gradually, Trudy had a noticeable change in the level of osteoarthritis knee pain she was dealing with. “Where I came from and where I am today are two totally different worlds. I'm so happy to be doing what I do. I get in the car and go. I’ve learned never to take things for granted.”

Does she have any advice for those still struggling with pain? “A lot of people just accept osteoarthritis knee pain as a sign of getting older. That they have to live like this. But they don’t have to. Synvisc-One can help.”
